The Pressures of Being a Student. By Yuriko T.

The Pressures of Being a Student

About eight months passed since I became a first-year student at Fukuoka Women’s University. As I get used to the life in this university, I sometimes feel uncomfortable. For example, sometimes I do not have enough money when I want to buy something, and sometimes I want to be free from my homework. I have a lot of pressures about money, study and daily life as a student.

It is financial problems that I have faced at the first. When I was a high school student, I wore a school uniform, so I did not have to think of my clothes at all. However, I became a university student this year, and I started wearing ordinary clothes to go to university; therefore I need new clothes and money to buy clothes. Consequently, I want to do more part-time jobs because I cannot earn a lot of money now. In fact, I have a part-time job, and I can earn money, but I cannot do the part-time job frequently. Therefore, I cannot get a lot of money. Second, I do not have enough money to buy what I want such as clothes and bags. If I find good clothes, I give up buying them because I do not have enough money for buying them. It makes me sad.

In addition to money problems, I also have two academic problems. One problem is to get good grades. In this university, I must get good grades in order to enter a seminar which I want to attend. If I get many bad grades, I may not be able to choose a seminar. Moreover, if I get the lowest grade, “D”, I may not be able to move next school year. The other problem is homework. I have a lot of homework every day, and sometimes I cannot sleep well due to my homework. My homework is often difficult, so it takes me many hours to finish it. Writing reports or essays is difficult and hard in particular. It is not easy to think of contents, and I am not good at typing words, so I am exhausted after I finish typing reports or essays.

Finally, there are pressures in the area of daily life. First, I must cook delicious meals for my roommates. In my dormitory room, I must make dinner on Tuesday. My roommates are good at cooking; moreover meals which are made by my roommates look good, so I should also cook fine and delicious dinner. Second, I should clean a dining area and a toilet. In my room, my roommates and I do not decide who cleans there. My roommates as well as I use a dining area and a toilet every day. As days go by, dust lies thick on the floor, for nobody cleans there. Therefore, if I notice rubbish on the floor, I should clean it.

In conclusion, I have three main problems. The first problem is money, the second problem is my university life, and the final problem is the life in my dormitory. It is difficult to solve the problems, but they are also inevitable. Therefore, I should find ways to reduce pressures caused three problems.

  1. Your essay is different from mine, because you used "I." Therefore, it gave me new impression.
I envy you eat with your roommates. In my room, each student cook by their own, and it's sad.
