The Pressure of Being a Student
2012.2.1

Have you ever felt any pressures in your life? Since I have become a college student, I feel some pressures that I have never expected. Like me, students are living life with pressures in their school life and dairy life.
First, students have pressures in their school life; for example, academic pressures. They have to get up early, make breakfast, change clothes and make up for girls. They must go to school every day, study various things and do tasks and tests.
Also, students have social pressures; for example, a communication with roommates or classmates. Then they get along with friends in class and dormitory, and communicate with teachers. FWU students live with 4 friends in dormitory and prepare dinner and lunch. It is fun and I enjoy this life, but I sometimes feel stress. For example, most students cannot use a bath and toilet in their time because students have to use it in rotation and my roommate often eats my foods, so they feel pressure. Since our English classes are often changed classmate, we have to meet new friends and talk with them to get along. Most students are shy, so it is hard to make friends for them. In the classes, students get many pressures for tests and homework. Students do not like tests and if they cannot get high scores, they may drop their degree of class. So students always worry about it and try to study hard. If students take boring classes or foreign languages’ class, they also feel pressures because it is difficult for them to understand contents and feel bore, it sometimes makes us tired and nervous.
Second, students feel stress in their everyday life. If they live by themselves, they have to do housework; for example, washing dishes and clothes, cooking and cleaning their room. When they lived with family, most of housework was done by their mother. So they are not used to doing them and feel pressure. Then they have to make money, so they have to have a part time job. Students are able to make about 700yen per an hour, but that their money is not much since they take care of spending money for shopping.
In short, students feel stress and pressures in many areas of school and daily life. When they become college students, they have to do many things; for example, studying, cooking, working, communicating and so on. We imagine that they are free and fun but they have troubles that they have to resolve. To decrease stress, it is good to eat delicious foods, take enough sleep and exercise for our health. If we can deal with pressure, we will be able to have more enjoyable life. Let’s beat some pressures!

  1. I agree to some points in this essay. For example, FWU's students can't use a bath in their time. In my case, if I want to take a bath slowry, I can't do it because other roommates wait for me. I feel stressful.

  2. Hi, Yuki!
I felt pressure and stress due to my housework because I depended on my mother entirely before being a college student. And I think your conclusion of this essay is so nice, because you mentioned how to decrease our inevitable stress. My latest way of getting rid of stress is foot massage, Japanese say "Asitsubo". My favorite foot massage is in Tenjin. It is a little expensive but I will continue to go there!
